Google Voice Locations

Google Voice Locations allows Location-based preferences to enable or disable phones in your Google Voice linked Account. Avoid the annoyance and inconvenience of call interception by roomates, coworkers, family etc. Make your Google Voice number ring where you are and nowhere else.  GVL runs a background service which loads on bootup.  After you set your locations and phone preferences, you can forget about it and GVL will take care of the rest.


Techventus is considering releasing GVL as Open Source so let the developers know if this is important to you.



Google Voice Locations is still in Beta, so be a bit patient with it and please give it a nice rating despite any quirks.  Some known issues and tips to manage them:

* Locations update and enforce phone preferences on a 2 minute frequency

* Location Determination depends on Network Triangulation rather than GPS to save on battery.  In some areas, this might cause poor performance.  A future update will allow the GPS as an option.

* Location Radius is actually the sum of the input radius and the Network Location Accuracy radius.  Thus, you may have to go a bit further than you expect to trigger a location change.

* Currently, not all the screen statuses refresh automatically - sometimes you need to change pages to get the correct status to display.  

* Currently, there is is no way to close the application from within the menu.  If you kill the application externally, it will kill the service also, and the functionality will be lost. When you reboot your phone, however, the background service will run, without the extra memory requirements of the GUI.
