You should make use of that status bar icon & have it show the time on the stopwatch when it's running in the background.

Absolutely great stopwatch! Records to 1/1000 sec. Plus it can toogle between cumulative lap time or individual lap time

Thousandth of a second great feature. So is toggling between lap time & elapsed time while timer's running. Weakness: no countdown timer.
